The Park City High School girls’ tennis team put on an absolute clinic yesterday, delivering a statement-making 5-0 shutout that sent a clear message to the rest of the region: the Miners are hitting their stride.
From the opening serves, Park City set a blistering pace in the singles division. Poppy Rae and Campbell Thomas proved untouchable in their respective slots, showcasing surgical precision and baseline dominance to put away their opponents in rapid-fire straight sets.
The undisputed thriller of the afternoon, however, belonged to Claire Smith. Pushed to a deciding third set, Smith found herself staring down a daunting 2-5 deficit with her back firmly against the wall. Showing ice-cold composure and relentless grit, Smith mounted a sensational five-game rally, refusing to yield a single game late to pull off a dramatic 7-5 comeback victory that had the home crowd on its feet.
The doubles tandem brought plenty of firepower of their own. Maddie Hadar and Zoe Centurier-Harris put on a clinic in high-energy chemistry, unleashing a flurry of net play and dynamic court coverage to seal a straight-sets victory in the day’s most entertaining battle. Meanwhile, Lila Jacoby and Alix Finkel were pure business, executing a ruthless, methodical straight-sets win to complete the five-court sweep.
It was a dominant, top-to-bottom performance, and precisely the kind of electric victory to kick off a strong season run for Park City.
